The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Cavite participated in the Training on the Establishment and Operation of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and Material Recovery System (MRS) in compliance with Republic Act No. 9003, held at the Provincial Capitol of Cavite. The training gathered representatives from local government units of Imus City Cavite City and Rosario to strengthen their understanding of sustainable solid waste management practices and promote compliance with the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
Serving as one of the resource speakers, Ms. Gilda S. De Jesus, Provincial Director of DOST Cavite, discussed the DOST programs that support local government units and communities. She highlighted key DOST initiatives, including the DOST Scholarship Program, the Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program, and the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), emphasizing how these programs contribute to human resource development, research and innovation, and enterprise competitiveness. She also introduced various DOST-developed technologies and equipment that may be adopted by local government units to enhance their Material Recovery Facilities and Material Recovery Systems, particularly benefiting the participating localities of Cavite City, Imus City, and Rosario.
The activity concluded with an interactive open forum where participants actively exchanged ideas and raised questions regarding the implementation of DOST programs and the possible adoption of appropriate technologies for their respective localities. The discussion reflected the participantsβ strong interest in leveraging science, technology, and innovation to strengthen their solid waste management initiatives. Through activities such as this, DOST Cavite continues to promote collaborative partnerships with local government units in advancing sustainable environmental management and supporting community development through science and technology.
