In a series of events held on August 20, 21, and 22, 2024, the provincial government of Cavite under the leadership of Governor Jonvic Remulla successfully conducted Barangay Tanod Seminars and distributed essential supplies to strengthen the capabilities of local peacekeepers in the Cities of Imus, General Trias, and Bacoor. These seminars aimed to provide the Barangay Tanods with the necessary skills and tools to enhance community safety and maintain peace and order in their respective areas.
The first seminar took place at Imus City Sports Complex on August 20, 2024. Barangay Tanods from across the city gathered to receive training on effective community policing strategies, emergency response, and conflict resolution. The seminar delivered by Patrolman Gio Cruz of the Police Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU), Cavite PPO focused on practical approaches to handling daily challenges faced by Tanods, such as managing local disputes, ensuring public safety, and coordinating with other law enforcement agencies. Following the seminar, the Tanods were provided with supplies that included first aid kits, flashlights, batons, and communication devices, which are crucial in performing their duties effectively.
The initiative continued in General Trias City on August 21, 2024, where Barangay Tanods were similarly trained and equipped. The seminar facilitated by PLTCOL Chester Borlongan, Chief, PCADU-Cavite PPO, emphasized the importance of community engagement, vigilance, and the proper application of the law. The distribution of supplies was met with appreciation from the participants, who recognized the value of having reliable tools to support their efforts in maintaining peace and order. The event also highlighted the city’s commitment to fostering a secure environment for its residents through continuous support and capacity building for its Barangay Tanods.
The final leg of the seminar series was held in Bacoor City on August 22, 2024 and was again facilitated by Patrolman Gio Cruz. The Tanods in attendance were trained on a wide range of topics, including crime prevention techniques, proper conduct during patrols, and effective communication with the community. As in the previous cities, the distribution of essential supplies followed the seminar. The provision of these supplies is seen as a tangible expression of the local government’s dedication to enhancing the operational readiness of the Tanods, ensuring they are well-prepared to address any challenges that may arise in their communities.
The series of seminars and distribution of supplies across Imus City, General Trias City, and Bacoor City reflect the concerted efforts of the provincial government to empower Barangay Tanods as frontliners in community safety. The events have not only provided them with the knowledge and tools necessary for their roles but have also reinforced the importance of their contributions to maintaining peace and order at the grassroots level.
