MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided a total of PHP2.7 million worth of relief goods to 622 families affected by the April 26 fire incident in a residential area in Barangay 22-Quadra, Cavite City.
According to a news release, the assistance was immediately delivered by the Field Office 4-A (Calabarzon), upon the orders of Secretary Rex Gatchalian, to the families that were rendered homeless after the fire.
DSWD Assistant Secretary for Disaster Response Management Group Diana Rose S. Cajipe and Special Assistant to the Secretary Marlon A. Alagao led the distribution of assistance to the victims, who are temporarily staying at the Ladislao Diwa Elementary School.
The two DSWD officials were assisted by Cavite 1st District Rep. Jolo Revilla and Cavite City Mayor Denver Chua.
The assistance provided by DSWD include family food packs worth more than PHP383,865 and non-food items, such as kitchen and hygiene kits, amounting to more than PHP2.3 million.
“Makakaasa ang lokal na pamahalaan na katuwang nila ang DSWD para magbigay ng agarang tulong para sa mga nasalanta ng sunog. Naka-monitor kami at patuloy na makikipag-coordinate sa LGU para dito (The local government is rest assured that the DSWD is their partner in providing immediate assistance to those affected by the fire incident. We are monitoring and will continuously coordinate with the LGU on this),” Cajipe said.
For his part, Revilla expressed his gratitude to the DSWD for sending immediate aid to his constituents.
“Una, maraming salamat kay DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian dahil kahapon pa lang habang nagaganap ang sunog sa ating lugar ay kausap ko na siya at agad na nagpadala ng mga tulong para sa atin (First of all, thank you very much to DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian because I talked to him as the fire was still ongoing and he immediately sent assistance),” the lawmaker said in his Facebook page.
Close coordination with the Cavite City Social Welfare and Development Office was also undertaken by DSWD to monitor the status of the internally displaced people.
Through its Field Office Calabarzon, DSWD will also provide financial aid to the affected families through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program. (PNA)
