BJMP Mandaluyong’s USAID-supported community-based drug rehabilitation program

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Assistant Administrator Michael Schiffer, together with U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, Heather Variava and Mission Director Ryan Washburn, visited the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Mandaluyong City Jail to assess the result of its supported community-based drug rehabilitation program being implemented in the facility. Schiffer also interacted with the USAID trained jail officials and civilian staff, as well as with the program graduates. Persons deprived of liberty (PDL) who are drug dependents are joining the six-month-long program developed under USAID’s RenewHealth plan, that also includes sessions involving family members. PDL participants are also given with livelihood and related skills training. After release from detention, participating PDLs are also provided with aftercare and reintegration services by the Mandaluyong City Anti-Drug Abuse Council. (Benjie J. Murillo / BJMPNCR Photo)
