In a swift and coordinated response to mitigate the impact of the Bataan oil spill, the Provincial Government of Cavite (PGC) has launched an immediate relief operation to assist the affected coastal communities in the province. The relief distribution saw the active participation of local officials and various departments within the PGC.
The first leg of distribution was done on August 1, 2024 where essential goods including rice and canned goods were distributed to the coastal communities in Cavite City and Kawit. The operation was conducted with the full support of the Office of the Provincial Governor, Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and other key departments within the PGC, ensuring a comprehensive approach to deliver the immediate needs of the affected population.
Provincial Administrator Rodel Vincent T. Bae, personally oversaw the distribution efforts, underscoring the provincial government’s commitment to providing prompt action amidst the crisis. Officials of the two local government units provided the needed support during the distribution of goods to their constituents.
In Cavite City, 2,196 beneficiaries received assistance distributed in four locations. The second wave of distribution for the remaining affected families will take place on the following day.
Meanwhile, initial beneficiaries in Kawit also received food relief package on the first round of distribution and will be completed on the succeeding leg of relief operations the next day.
In addition to the relief distribution, PGC departments are working closely with national agencies to continuously assess the environmental impact of the oil spill for coordinated response and rehabilitation efforts.
Residents of the affected areas are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and to follow the instructions of local authorities for their safety and well-being.
